Numerical Methods for Approximating Invariant Manifolds of Delayed Systems

چکیده
In this paper we develop new methods for computing k-dimensional invariant manifolds of delayed systems for k ≥ 2. Our current implementation is built for k = 2 only, but the numerical and algorithmic challenges encountered in this case will be also present for any k > 1. For small delays, we consider methods for approximating delay differential equations (DDEs) with ordinary differential equations (ODEs). Once these approximations are made, any existing method for computing invariant manifolds of ODEs can then be used directly. We derive bounds on errors incurred by the most natural of these approximations. For large delays, we extend to DDEs the method originally introduced by Krauskopf and Osinga [Chaos, 9 (1999), pp. 768–774] for invariant manifolds of ODEs. We test the convergence of the resulting algorithms numerically and further illustrate our approach by computing two-dimensional unstable manifolds of equilibria in the context of phase-conjugate feedback lasers.

A Fast Method for Approximating Invariant Manifolds
The task of constructing higher-dimensional invariant manifolds for dynamical systems can be computationally expensive. We demonstrate that this problem can be locally reduced to solving a system of quasi-linear PDEs, which can be efficiently solved in an Eulerian framework. We construct a fast numerical method for solving the resulting system of discretized nonlinear equations. The efficiency ...

Geometric methods from dynamical systems are used to study Lagrangian transport in numerically-generated, time-dependent, two-dimensional vector elds. The ows analyzed here are numerical solutions to the barotropic, -plane, potential vorticity equation with viscosity, where the pde parameters have been chosen so that the solution evolves to a meandering jet. Numerical methods for approximating ...
متن کاملStatistical cosymplectic manifolds and their submanifolds
In this paper, we introduce statistical cosymplectic manifolds and investigate some properties of their tensors. We define invariant and anti-invariant submanifolds and study invariant submanifolds with normal and tangent structure vector fields. We prove that an invariant submanifold of a statistical cosymplectic manifold with tangent structure vector field is a cosymplectic and minimal...
متن کاملA numerical approach for variable-order fractional unified chaotic systems with time-delay
This paper proposes a new computational scheme for approximating variable-order fractional integral operators by means of finite element scheme. This strategy is extended to approximate the solution of a class of variable-order fractional nonlinear systems with time-delay. Numerical simulations are analyzed in the perspective of the mean absolute error and experimental convergence order. To ill...
